"You might have song worthy of being a single" Song of the Year critique of 'Just a Man' (Song of The Year Finalist, Folk, July 08)
I write and record my songs for fun. I make no bones about it, my recordings are not finished product for release. Every time I hear one I want to rewrite or change parts of it - and often with the tiniest change they can lurch from one meaning to another, meaning I have to rethink them all over again.
"You have a very sweet and emotional song that ... will have a strong chance of attracting buyers" Song of the Year critique of 'You Are The Reason'
"The lyrics are incredibly moving and the music sends chills down my spine for the emotion it packs" Song of the Year critique of 'Just a Man'
I am a songwriter, but not a singer-songwriter. That's mainly because my voice isn't too hot - the only thing I would win on X Factor would be laughs
"I’m not a big fan of your vocals. Not that they are bad... The melodies are spectacular!" Song of the Year critique of 'Boomerang'
Although each song gets written over a period of 1-12 months, during which time bits get added and re-arranged, I can only really let it go when it is covered (which often requires rewrites to the lyrics and/or music). It is then that I would consider it "finished".
"This song has heartfelt emotion and is very identifiable." Song of the Year critique of 'Just a Man'
I salute anyone who tries to create a song - the music, the orchestration, the playing, the singing and especially the lyrics (which I find the hardest of all). You have to bear your soul somewhat and that can be an uncomfortable, though rewarding, experience.
My MySpace site also has some of this material at various times, and the music section contains instrumental material.
Thanks to Igor Dvorkin who did the superb arrangements for How Will I Breath, This Lionheart, Tell Me Again and Moving Fast. He used elements of my original recorded parts and then added his own magic.
In the player are a number of songs I have written, in order of date, with the latest being first. Any publishers or co-writers interested in any song(s), just get in touch.
"This song has serious potential" Song of the Year critique of 'Boomerang'
